Nancy Pelosi, by saying “Impeachment is off the table,” obstructed the will of the people. Indeed, she refused to even listen to the people and determine their will before making that declaration! For that she should be impeached.
I am well aware she will not be, but we, the people, need to let her know of our displeasure with her cowardice!! What good is a (supposedly) representative government if we the people through apathy or laziness do not bother to let our representatives and leaders know how we feel?! Yes, it is late in Bush's presidency, but it is never too late to do the right thing and to let the people of the world know we are not like our leaders, and do not concur in what they do. We the people are better than are the people who represent us. Congressman Kucinich and the people who would vote with him are the true heroes of this Congress. Democrats were elected to Congress in 2004 and particularly in 2006 because people wanted the Iraq War ended, and were sickened by the constant lies and deceit and the unbelievable incompetence of the Bush administration in every area of government. The same kind of lies and deceit which had propelled us into the war in the first place! Now, under Bush/Cheney we are hated throughout the world. No longer a shining light to the world, we have become a thug nation. A bully nation that is seen as inflicting her will through force. As Lee Iacocca said “I hardly recognize my country any more.”
All I want, and I believe what most people want, is for our nation to be what we were taught she was as children. America was never as noble as we were taught of course, but there was, at least, the hope that we were different – at least a little better – than most powerful nations that had gone before us had been. Under Bush/Cheney we feel shame. We want the people who have made us feel this shame, and who are responsible for the policies that have brought so much misery and poverty to so many people around the world to be held accountable and removed from office!
I sometimes listen to the House proceedings on C-Span. Impeachment proceedings would be infinitely more important than what I see being discussed nearly every day. Certainly taking House time to change the name of French fries to “freedom fries” because of what turned out to be lies by this administration was a waste of time. As we now know, the French were right not to support Bush in what Chalmers Johnson calls ‘the boy emperor’s vanity war.’ All who voted against giving these evil (Cheney) people the power to go to war whenever they wanted in the first place were right.
When Clinton was impeached, his popularity was over 50%. Whatever else he did, Clinton cut the national debt and put the economy at a surplus. Bush has put us so far in debt with his tax cuts for the rich, we are not even paying for the war we are fighting now. Bush’s popularity is at 27%, which means even half of the people in his OWN party are disgusted by his incompetence and dishonesty. If his incompetence and sins – the information that Rep. Kucinich put into the record was widely disseminated in the public eye, as it would be if his impeachment were handled in the same way President Clinton’s impeachment was publicized, even more people would be in favor of his impeachment!! Why, in God’s name should he not be impeached??!! Had Gore become the president when he won the 2000 election and 9/11 had happened after all the warnings the administration had received (some of which Rep. Kucinich read into the record), the Republicans would have had no rectitude in impeaching him for that alone.
But, all but a few Democrats have sold out their honor, and worse our honor, for what they consider expediency. And when history is written, they will forever have a black eye for their cowardice and unwillingness to act in the best interest of the people, the country, and the world, by removing these people from office.
As the leader of the House, for not even trying to determine the true will of the people, Nancy Pelosi should be impeached and removed from office.
